Newport Style

{Gorgeous view from our hotel which was on Goat Island in Newport, RI}

I spent the past two days in Newport, RI and I fell in love with this gorgeous town!  I love the hundreds of sailboats, the adorable downtown area, the lobsters & clams and most of all- the fashion!  I wish I could have spent more time  there because this little city won my heart over. Here are some outfits inspired by the fabulous people of Newport because even though I can’t spend more time there- I can dress like it!

I pack these necessities in my carry-on because if my luggage gets lost, I will still have everything I need to enjoy my trip! My #1 priority for packing is sunscreen.  Check out my favorites HERE.

Turks & Caicos Guide: Activities

{Small lizard climbing up a tree}

Next week I am going to Curacao for a week, and it has me reminiscing on my past beach vacations. The past two summers I have spent a week in Turks & Caicos.  These islands are by far my favorite to visit {so far}!  The sand is silky, the water is crystal clear, and you can snorkel right off of the beach. We always stay at the Gansevoort, which is a great location with perfect amenities to make the trip as relaxing as possible. Turks & Caicos is such a fun island with many exciting things to explore. Here are the top 5 activities that you must do while visiting these islands.

1. Snorkel off the beach at Smith’s Reef: This reef is located right off of the beach and is home to many animals including a devil ray, barracudas, large lobsters, sting rays, and many types of fish!

2. Take a boat on a snorkeling & private island trip: Caico’s Dream Tours offers a half-day trip of snorkeling, diving for conch, and then eating fresh conch at a private island.  Diving for conch is fun, and having the captain prepare it for you fresh is an amazing experience.  Also, there are 4-5 feet iguanas on the island, so look out for those!

{The gorgeous view from the private island}

{Preparing the conch that we caught during our dive}

3. Glow worm boat tour: Three to six nights after a full moon, glow worms perform their mating ritual about an hour after sunset.  Take a night cruise and watch the gorgeous sunset, then see the glow worms illuminate the water in spectacular patterns.

4. Parasail: The parasailing is amazing here because the water is crystal clear and you can spot sharks under you.  Also, you can see the entire island from up there!

5. SCUBA or SNUBA dive: If you are SCUBA certified there are many amazing reefs to SCUBA! If not, then try SNUBA, which allows you to go deep without any special certifications.

Around The World: Epcot

{A bird saying hello while dining in ‘Mexico’}

While visiting the around-the-world section of Epcot may not be cultural, it does feature some tasty food & cocktails that I would be happy to go back and sample again. From frozen margaritas in Mexico to world-class champagne in France, I enjoyed every sip step of my trip ‘around the world.’ Here are some of my favorite cocktails and dishes from my adventure.

{Caramel EVERYTHING in ‘Germany’}

{Speaking of caramel, I am enjoying a salted caramel cupcake from ‘Germany.’ This was heaven}

{My most delicious salted caramel cupcake}

{Grand Mariner slushies in ‘France’. Seriously amazing!}

{Sake-tini in ‘Japan’}

{Margarita on the rocks from ‘Mexico.’ Yum!}

{While it doesn’t look like much, this was the most noteworthy dish from the trip: chicken and cheese empanadas with queso fresco on top. These were made perfectly}

Protect Your Skin!

I am sure you have spent your fair share of time in the sun this Summer, but have you been taking care of your skin? If you don’t protect your skin properly you are raising your chances of skin cancer, and you are definitely aging your skin must faster.  Who wants to look 40 when they are 30? Not me! I make sure to cover my whole body with these great sunscreens because I want to be healthy and look fabulous when I’m older! Bella Italia Must Eats!

My friend/fashionista/foodie, Monique, recently went to Italy and has graciously offered to share some of her favorite food experiences with us from her trip! She lived in Italy for a few years, so she is my new go-to girl for tips on everything Italy. Read her guest post below! xo- Lindsey

{Everyone, meet Monique!}

Recently, I was lucky enough to take a mini vacation to one of my absolute favorite spots in the world – Bella Italia! Aside from the beautiful sights I saw and the amazing people I met, I have to say, what they say about Italy is true – Their food is the absolute BEST, a must-try, and completely worth the 7 hour flight and jet lag. Put Italy on your ‘Bucket List’ and while you’re there try some of my all-time favorite Italian dishes.

I’m not even a coffee drinker but there is something about the way they make these delicious little treats that makes it worth a try. There’s a café on practically every corner so they aren’t hard to find. Coffee breaks are such a big part of their culture that it’s definitely an experience that can’t be missed. (I also recommend the Macchiato! )

This is a no-brainer. While in Italy an absolute must-have is their pizza. You can get all sorts of fresh toppings but my favorite is just the classic ‘Pizza Margerita’ with red sauce and fresh mozzarella de buffalo. (Some advice: Try this in Naples. They are known for the best fresh mozzarella in Italy, and take it from me – it’s a HUGE difference. So good!)

Now, here’s that mozzarella I was talking about. Paired with fresh tomatoes or prosciutto, the texture and taste of mozzarella from Italy is completely different from any served in the U.S.  My sister and I got to enjoy this while looking over the Napoli Bay.

While in Italy I made friends with a restaurant owner who invited me to her place, La Gratella for lunch. I ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro which was super yummy. Simple ingredients but so tasty! My sister got the catch of the day which was paired with fresh boiled potatoes. Everything was so delicious, I’m pretty sure I ate BOTH of our meals.

Florence is known in Italy for their meat. If you ever find yourself in Florence I recommend trying the steak. I ordered this meal (steak paired with fried veggies) at a well-known restaurant in Florence called, ‘ Perseus’.

Let’s not forget about Dessert! From their creamy gelato to their bakeries on every corner…There are countless goodies to try to satisfy your sweet tooth.  My favorite is the yogurt flavored gelato.

Italy is all about the experience you have with food. Dinners can take up to 4 hours and they encourage you to savor your every bite. Believe me when I say I could write a book about the amazing dishes I was able to try – and I wish I could share them all with you — but maybe, just maybe, that will give you some incentive to go and try it for yourself. Ciao Bellos!

Happy Independence Day!

We hope you are having a fabulous Fourth of July! Hopefully you are lounging by the pool, hanging out by the beach, or at least relaxing on this fabulous holiday! XOXX

Healthy & Happy BBQ

Tomorrow is July 4th which is pretty much synonymous with barbecuing. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks {wahoo!} so I don’t want to stuff my face with cheeseburgers and pasta-salad drenched in mayo.  You can easily have a healthy AND happy BBQ by substituting in some healthier options. Here are some of the things I will be eating tomorrow!

Black Bean Burger W/ Chipotle ‘Mayo.’ Find the recipe HERE.

This veggie burger tastes amazing, and the ‘mayo’ is actually made with Vegenaise. Win-win.

Quinoa Salad. Find the recipe HERE.

Reap all of the health benefits that quinoa offers, and enjoy this light dish covered in veggies! This is a great replacement for that old pasta salad.

Kale Chips.  Find the recipe HERE.

Bye-bye greasy potato chips and hello to nutrient filled and delicious kale chips.  They are especially good when topped with fresh salsa.

Sugar-free Strawberry Sorbet. Find the recipe HERE.

Ditch the cake and ice cream and indulge in some fresh strawberry sorbet.  All the flavor, no guilt.

Baked Avocado Fries. Find the recipe HERE.

Have a craving for crunchy french fries? Forget about those and feast on some crunchy avocado ‘fries’ that are baked to a crisp.

Power Lunch: Wolfgang Puck’s Grand Cafe

{Yummy tortilla soup!}

Grand Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants by Wolfgang Puck.  The menu is so vast that there is something to suit everyone’s craving, and the waterfront view is perfect for a Summer day. I loved their tortilla soup {although my boyfriend claim’s that my RECIPE is better} and the four cheese pesto pizza was amazing!  The cocktails were also good- nothing too creative but they were definitely made right.  Overall I enjoyed dining there and recommend trying it out if you are visiting the Orlando area!

{Shrimp Club: avocado, bacon, lettuce & tomato}

{Yummy, fresh-made foccacia}

{Four-cheese pesto pizza with mozzarella, fontina, parmesan, sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese}

{Orange Creamsicle cocktail- perfect for a Summer day}
